This is a key point for me. During the early years of the EU, even though it was space opera, Star Wars was at least intelligent space opera. Yes, it played fast and loose with the laws of physics, but there did at least seem to be some effort to make it plausible. The Disney-canon, however, no longer seems to care that intelligent fans with high standards are experiencing whiplash-inducing attacks of eye-rolling over some of what we see in the modern SWU.

I haven’t read all the EU sources, nor do I have a photographic memory. I knew they were doing Thrawn cartoons, but my understanding was that they were set pre-ANH, long before Thrawn had anything to do with the Chimaera (according to the EU). Please forgive me, but I am super immersed in the EU at the moment (currently listening to the Vision of the Future audiobook during my commute, and reading Solo Command at night—my first time with each novel), so, that’s where my head was/is at. I mainly think of the Chimaera as Pallaeon’s ship, so, I was surprised (and admittedly a bit put out) to learn about this.

I read all your posts. Please believe that I greatly appreciate and highly value you for your experience and insightful posts here. I think you are taking my posts personally when I don’t mean it as such in the slightest. I regret highly this misunderstanding, especially my shortcomings as a poster.

I definitely don’t think *you* intend anything derogatory by using terms like “canon” and “incorrect,” what I’m saying is that *I* prefer different nomenclature be established. But I recognize that that approach is idiosyncratic and probably colored by some of the EU groups I have been hanging out in.

In Legends Thrawn became a Grand Admiral in 2 ABY. To use him in Rebels with his famous title, they had to move his grand admiralship to a few years BBY to fit it into the Rebels timeline. They likewise shifted the Chimaera to BBY and changed it to an Imp I. So the only thing they really honored about the EU timeline was Imp IIs not being BBY.

Must be. If I say, "In Legends, the Millennium Falcon is a victory-class star destroyer." That would be a factually incorrect statement and I should be corrected. If I make a statement that happens to be correct in one universe and incorrect in another, using the term incorrect does not automatically imply inferiority. But I didn't even use the word incorrect when I corrected your factually incorrect statement. I just said what class the ship really was in the frame of reference of the request.

The terms "Canon" and "Legends" or the "Canon Universe" and the "EU" can be used completely descriptively with no connotations of superiority. If I say "Tarkin is a canon book." That is a factually correct statement that describes which universe it take place in. It does not mean "Tarkin is inherently superior to any EU work simply by virtue of it having canon status." Please try not to read descriptions as more than that. Canonicity should be able to be discussed factually like anything else. And Canon is not superior to Legends.

I feel that what you say is unfortunately true about Disney-canon, but not completely true about the EU. The EU was always inconsistent, from the very beginning when they shoehorned Dark Empire (which did not make sense) into the same universe as the Thrawn Trilogy (which did make sense). These clearly represent two opposing visions of the post-RotJ galaxy and they do not belong together. In the early EU, Kevin J. Anderson did nothing to make Star Wars seem plausible. So select EU works make some kind of sense, but others didn't.

Howdy!

It's been awhile! Since I started this thread, I've had two kids and changed jobs twice. Wow, has it been that long?

I'm back now with a big breakthrough! I don't have the individual rooms yet, but I've successfully subdivided the entire ship into sections and assigned functions to each area! This is something I'm super excited to share:

S=Superstructure, E=Engineering Section

As before, the ship is divided into two sections, Superstructure (Decks 0-59, rotated 4.5 degrees down towards the bow), and Engineering (Decks 60-117). Each deck is 3 meters tall, with 1 meter of inter-deck gravplating, machinery, and crawlspaces.

Thanks, Whill! YOU HAVE NO IDEA.

I'm actually running my first SW D6 game this weekend after an 8 month hiatus (my littlest one is 6 mos old) and I'm terrified that I've forgotten how to GM!

I might have something of an idea. I once had a girlfriend who had two little girls, literally only one year a part in age (their birthdays are both in June, less than a couple weeks short of one year apart). When we got together, they were 1 and less than a year old. A few months later we moved in together and ended up living together for 4 years. The girls' dad wasn't a big part of their lives and they recognized me as their father figure.

So I already had quite a lot of baby/toddler experience under my belt before my wife and I had our son. But having only one kid is definitely easier than two was.

It's like riding a bike. You'll be fine.

I think I've got some clue. I had mine 17 months apart. You wind up learning how to shift GM'ing and parenting.

Luckily, I just started am R&E campaign that involved my kids. (Though I really should put my D6 Jr. house rules I was using and put them online somewhere.)

Anyway, this is a terrific start on Star Destroyer. I look forward to going over it in more detail.

Yes, you really should. I'll be happy to host them here.

I've taken a closer look, and this is really an impressive leap forward on this project. I don't think that anyone has gotten as far as getting an outline of deck sections like this.

Thanks!

I'm excited to have gotten this far. For many GMs, this would be more than enough to run a game with, combined with some rudimentary map skills and the ability to draw important locations at character-scale when called for. However, I've already started laying in individual rooms, and it certainly takes it that one step further from abstract to full-on map!

How do people feel about detention being between the hangar and engineering?

Starfall puts Detention in the neck of the Victory-II, but Rebels seemed to indicate that it was a short jaunt from the side of the ship to detention, and then to engineering, and there was no mention of climbing up 30+ decks via the ventilation ducts to save Kanaan, then back down to stumble into engineering.

That sounds ok to me. Makes more sense than putting the detention block in close proximity to the bridge. You'd want to have easy access from the hangar after boarding Rebel ships, but not too close to engineering in case you accidentally lock up the Heroes of Yavin.

I thought it seemed like a ready-made escape plan to have them so close together. But I also haven't seen the episode you're referring to.

Bumping it up.

Maybe it was addressed before but I could not find it...
so I rewatched ANH and TESB and saw how ISDs were tailing Falcon quite easily:

Quote:
ANH: Are you kidding? At the rate they're gaining...

TESB:
EXT. SPACE - MILLENNIUM FALCON

The Millennium Falcon speeds away from Hoth, closely followed by one
huge Star Destroyer and four tiny TIE fighters.

The buffeting of lasers becomes louder and stronger.

LEIA
They're getting closer!

EXT. IMPERIAL STAR DESTROYER, AVENGER - ASTEROID BELT

The Millennium Falcon speeds through deep space, closely followed by a
firing Imperial Star Destroyer.

Even the Executor:

Quote:
INT. VADER'S STAR DESTROYER - BRIDGE
Vader stands on the bridge, watching as the Millennium Falcon is chased
by the TIE fighters. As his Destroyer draws nearer, Vader's breathing
gets slightly faster.

Did you ever think about increasing their sublight speed?
