Yeah it is, till some psyco wire 7 square blocks up and the Pissed off Hutt crime boss sends you to meet with him about his missing protection money....

I don't remember saying that. I do recall the book had that limitation and I agreed with it. That item takes some of the fun of advancing characters. It can turn warriors into techs, but not the otherway around. A way to control such a device is to limit what data can be acquired.

my characters usually use demolitions as a distractions, then sneak in

One of my players found it fun and "interesting" to hook up demolitions with mouse droids. Needless to say we scanned every droid entering our ship......
